Vallee Blanche
The famous Vallee Blanche is a
wonderful off-piste opportunity that can be skied by any competent ‘red run’
skier. It is 24 kilometres of descent, with a 2800 metre vertical drop, along
the Geant and ‘Mer de Glace’ glaciers. It starts from the top of the Aiguille
du Midi at 3842 metres high and can usually be skied between January and
May.

The Vallee Blanche is an unmarked,
unpatrolled, high mountain itinerary along glaciers with crevasses! There are no
safety measures. Under no circumstances is it to be confused with a ski area.
Depending on snow cover you can return to Chamonix on skis or via the Glacier
gondola and Montenvers rack railway. The Vallee Blanche takes on average three
to five hours of continual ski-ing to complete.

Les Houches - Perfect for intermediates, families and groups
Les Houches has 22 lifts and
offers ideal ski-ing for intermediates, beginners and mixed ability groups.
There is a good variety of runs ranging from easy nursery slopes, long winding
blues, challenging reds and the black of the Mens Downhill. There are also
moguls, lots of off-piste through the trees and a snowboard park. Runs are long
and mainly tree- lined which means you can ski here even if the weather closes
in! They're also covered by 137 snow cannons - just in case! Pistes are rarely
crowded and you can experience true 'millionaire' ski-ing with runs almost to
yourself.
The north facing slopes in Les
Houches retain good snow for much of the season and ski-ing back down to the
valley floor is quite normal. The nearest lift is just 150 metres horizontal
from the Lodge and ski-ing back to the chalet garden for a mid-day break, or at the end
of the day, is a luxury that only a handful of chalets in Chamonix can offer!
Normally the ski lifts here
open mid-December. The ski season in Les Houches finishes around the end of
April, though good ski-ing is still found in Chamonix where the season continues
into May.

Chamonix Region - 762kms of skiing. 14 resorts - 297 pistes: 37 black, 118 red, 81 blue, 52 green, snowpark, 45kms cross country
